Chalcedony

Chalcedony is a type of cryptocrystalline quartz that is formed not of one single crystal but a number of finely grained microcrystals. The variety of chalcedonies is even greater than that of transparent quartz, but only the celestial blue colored gemstones are called ‘chalcedony’ or – sometimes - ‘blue lace agate’.
The other chalcedonies are :
Agate : multi-colored, banded chalcedony, semi - translucent to translucent.
Moss Agate : green, has a plant - like pattern.
Onyx : black agate where the bands are straight, parallel and consistent in size.
Jasper : opaque chalcedony, typically red to brown.
Bloodstone : red spots on a green background.
Aventurine : translucent green, blue or red chalcedony with small inclusions of mica.
Chrysoprase : a bright, apple - green, translucent chalcedony.
Amethyst : purple, transparent.
Citrine : bright yellow to reddish orange to brown, greenish yellow.
Ametrine : combines the appeal of both amethyst and citrine, purple and yellow in one gemstone.
Carnelian : reddish orange chalcedony, translucent.
White chalcedony is surnamed ‘pietra latte’. It stimulates maternal feelings.
Chalcedony was called after the disappeared city of Kalchedon in Asia Minor. It is a gently lined blue or light - grey transparent gemstone with a silky frosted brilliance. It contains a fair amount of silica and is especially suitable in treatment of breathing difficulties and other respirastional problems. Chalcedony (also called Blue lace agate) reduces decalcification of the bones, has a favourable influence on arthritis and other problems with the joints, helps in case of hypertension and is said to reduce cholesterol.
Chalcedony helps to heal wounds and other ailments of the skin. Rub the affected area several times a day softly with a piece of chalcedony.
Connecting and healing are two major healing properties of chalcedony, which also shows in the fact that chalcedony connects the agate layers with each other and literally heals the wounds of broken stones.
Chalcedony is a motherly stone which heals mental wounds and softens pain and grief. Especially in case of frightened or small children, chalcedony will comfort them and grant them calmness and trust. It further assists people in their inner atunement and in finding their place in the cosmic plan.
Chalcedony primarily belongs to the throat chakra, it facilitates speaking in public and it can ease the harsh edge off communication, and smoothe discussions.
Wear chalcedony around the neck – close to the throat - on the skin. When meditating, it is well to hold a chalcedony in your hand.
