Emerald

Emerald is perhaps the most popular and highly prized Beryl crystal. The name emerald comes from the Greek ’smaragdos’ via the Old French ‘esmeralde’, and means ‘green gemstone’.
Brilliant green emerald is an earth mother stone and it increases creative imagination, prosperity, protection, love and fertility. It’s the stone of springtime, youthfulness and harmony.
The ancient Greeks called emerald a stone of Venus, ideal for Taurus and Libra. Because of its green color (chrome) emerald belongs also with the Moon and her sign Cancer, as do many green gemstones (aventurine, jade etc.). In this case, emerald is especially helpful in balancing emotions.
Wear an emerald on the index finger of your receptive hand to relieve or prevent disease, or against the throat to gently calm and balance all seven chakra centers at once. Gaze at the emerald to soothe tired eyes, or keep emerald in the northernmost corner of the home to keep out evil spirits.
Being a Libra stone, emerald is said to protect marital relationships against seduction and temptation.
The best emeralds come from India. The Vedas, the holy scriptures of the Indians, speak of the precious green gems and their healing properties: ‘emeralds promise good luck’ and ‘the emerald enhances the well-being’. This is probably why the treasure chests of Indian maharajas contained so much wonderful emeralds.
One of the world’s largest emeralds is the so-called ‘Mogul Emerald’. It dates back from 1695, weighs 217.80 carats, and is about 10cm tall.
Choose specimens that are colored medium to dark transparent green. Inclusions are common and do not negatively affect the quality of the stone.
