Halite
By admin on Jul. 20, 2008.
The name ‘halite’ comes from the Greek word ‘hals’, meaning ’salt’.
According to legend, halite was born out of the ocean when heaven and earth were created.
Halite is actually solidified salt that was formed millions of years ago. It is the mineral form of sodium chloride, commonly known as rock salt, which is a halite evaporite. This means that it forms when water evaporites and leaves behind dissolved solids.
Layers of salt mark areas where seas dried up in ancient times. Whenever seawater evaporates, several different minerals come out of solution, starting with the carbonate mineral calcite, then gypsum, then halite.
Halite is typically colorless when it is pure, but also occurs in yellow, red, pink, gray or brown. Light or dark blue halite is rather rare and probably results from the influence of radioactivity.
Halite is fragile, it breaks into cubes when crushed.
Use halite for connecting with the earth, grounding, protection or to block negative energies.
For added protection, place a halite crystal in each of the four corners of your house.
The warm and natural light of rock salt lamps has a peaceful and stress - reducing effect on your home environment.
