Malachite

Malachite is a gentle green porous stone with high copper content (copper carbonate). The protective sheen disappears rather rapidly, this is the reason why it becomes dull. The stone’s name derives via Latin and French (’moloché’, a variant of ‘malaché’) and from the Greek ‘molochitis’, both meaning ‘mallow – green stone’.

In old Egypt malachite was a beloved and important stone type. Symbols were made of it and powdered malachite was, for example, also used for eye make-up and to prevent ophthalmias.

Malachite is a very attractive stone with a vivid green color, which contains a lot of copper. It is said to be a very suitable stone for people with rheumatic complaints, this has often to do with a surplus of urine acid in the body. This acid collects in the joints. The copper present in malachite gently aids to regulate the uric acid level, which could result in the joints becoming smoother. It also helps in case of a headache caused by a surplus of urine acid.

Malachite may well be used to achieve balance. It belongs to the middle – or heart chakra and is able to neutralise a surplus of red (activity) or blue (lethargy). It is particularly useful for balancing and clearing the heart chakra.

Malachite patterns are often beautiful with a deep rich color. These patterns however, aquire our attention. Regularly lined patterns are suitable for people who already are capricious or chaotic, it will make them quieter. While capricious patterns are useful to break through severeness.
