Moldavite is an olive - green or dull greenish vitreous substance formed by a meteorite impact. Others believe it is the only ‘extraterrestrial’ gemstone. Moldavite is a variety of tektite, first found in 1787 and named after the Moldau river valley in Bohemia, Czech Republic, where it occurs.
Moldavite is sometimes cut and polished as an ornamental stone under the name of pseudo-chrysolite.
This green gem belongs to the rarest minerals ever found on earth. They have been respected for thousands of years by humanity due to their unique properties. Nowadays, moldavite is still presented as a royal gift and according to legend, it was said that the Holy Grail was once decorated with moldavite.
